Each Friday I’ll tell you about a different Farmer’s market or farm stand. I’ll provide information from my own visit and links for you to check it out and visit yourself!
Today it’s Portland Farmer’s market at PSU – my favorite in the Upper Willamette valley. (click here for the map). They are located on the West side of Portland (Oregon) near Portland State University. And they don’t just have produce! You can get your whole dinner there!
Get there early – they open at 8:30 in the summer. There are booths that prepare food to eat on site and one of those makes biscuits and gravy. I can’t eat gluten so I have never had them, but everyone I’ve been with raves about the menu!! It’s always the first stop of the morning. So go hungry and have breakfast there!
After you enjoy some biscuits and gravy or pastries and coffee (yep, those are there too), start your rounds. I like to make a complete run before I buy. There are so many great things I’d spend way too much money if I didn’t operate this way! You can purchase handmade sausages and salami, artisan cheeses (goat, sheep and cow), handcrafted hard cider and beer, a plethora of fresh produce, even wild mushrooms (to mention just a few items)! And you can sample a lot – which is nice when you have to choose from a variety of selections. You can also purchase plants, like vegetable and herbs.
So grab your bag and head off to the market tomorrow (it’s only open on Saturdays), and get what you need for a farm to table dinner. You’ll spend a couple of hours out in the fresh Portland air, get a little walking in and come home with a bag full of lusciousness!
